Throughout the year, SkillsUSA students sharpen their skills through competitions on the local, regional, and state levels, competitions created and judged by industry. The SkillsUSA Championships is the national pinnacle of those competitions, where more than 6,000 state champions compete in well over 100 skilled and leadership events.

SW Washington Students Dominate SkillsUSA State Championships

Southwest Washington is celebrating a milestone moment. In past years, the region saw just one SkillsUSA state champion—but this year, our students raised the bar in a big way. With a record number advancing to the state competition, an impressive six students earned first-place titles, showcasing the strength and momentum of construction education across our communities.

Our 2026 state champions:

Tyree Martin (Hudson Bay High School) – Roofing
Austen Gunderson (Hudson Bay High School) – Architectural Design
Keith Carlson (Ilwaco High School) – Electrical
Liam Taft (Ilwaco High School) – Plumbing
Connor Rapp (Ridgefield High School) – Cabinetry
Reagan Stevens (Cascadia Technical Academy) – Technical Math

From design to skilled trades, these students exemplify excellence, discipline, and the power of hands-on learning. Their success is more than individual achievement—it reflects a growing movement to prepare the next generation of builders, creators, and problem-solvers.
